Cloudy and Breezy Bike Ride to SH 242 and Back
As I got ready to start today’s bike ride I took a screenshot of the current weather conditions. One thing that jumped out at me: wind from the south at 16 mph. Since I chose the “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route riding north with a tailwind sounded great but the return trip meant a strong headwind. I started the ride at 11:54 AM, a little later than I prefer because I waited for the temperature to go up closer to the forecast.
I didn’t realize how strong the headwind became until after I finished the ride at 2:57 PM and saw 22 mph wind with 28 mph gusts. That explains the hard pedaling returning to Kingwood. Weather during the bike ride: start 76 (70% humidity, 66.0 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 16 mph. Finish 77 (72% humidity, 66.9 dew point), mostly cloudy and breezy, wind SE 22 mph gusts 28 mph. I probably dressed a little heavier than necessary with shorts, long sleeve thermal jersey with a short sleeve jersey over the the long sleeve one. Early in the ride I began to feel hot but when I got to Tavola the wind temperature seemed to drop a few degrees and hot no longer seemed a problem.
With today’s 37.51 mile ride I am at 339.9 miles for November on the road, 20 miles away from my 360 mile goal. Counting road and virtual bike rides November totals 524.75 miles, well over my 460 mile goal for combined road and virtual biking.
So far my taillight retention Velcro strap held the light in place. I think I also have made sure the light clicks into place in the bracket.
Thursday’s weather forecast calls for a repeat of today. I plan on biking and surpassing my road miles goal for November.
