Zwifting After The Cold Arrived Bike Rides
The promised cold front arrived this morning prompting me to stay indoors and renewing my activity on Zwift. The temperature got down to 60 around the time I usually leave on my ride. Since I am new to Zwift and learning the in’s and out’s I messed around before actually starting. I wanted to stream my ride on YouTube.com which meant starting the Open Broadcasting Software (OBS) program and figuring out how to set it up.
At first I wanted to include a webcam window along with the Zwift window but that got complicated so I left that out for today but maybe the next time now that I have reacquainted myself with all of the parts.
I am using the free trial of Zwift to stretch out my experience before putting money on the table and subscribing at $14.99 per month.
I joined the first ride in progress because setting up OBS and getting everything running. After I started the ride I forgot to get a water bottle so I stopped in the middle to get it. I walked out of range of my phone with the Zwift app connecting my heart rate monitor. I went through the steps to get that connected again and by then the Wahoo Kickr and cadence sensor stopped too. Next time, remember the water bottle.
The video of Zwift ride #1 today. I rode 11.98 miles but I wanted to ride at least 20 so I did ride #2 after ending the first one.
The second ride followed the Richmond 2015 UCI World’s course which I happened to be there and watched. I did slightly better recording this workout. By the second ride sweat dripped from my arms and forehead. The last 1/2 mile was uphill and I worked hard to get to the top before ending the ride which happened to be one lap.
These two workouts on Zwift totaled 22.4 miles and I count them towards my October goal which stands at 347.99 miles. Almost halfway to 700 miles.
Saturday morning looks cold too but Zwifting indoors will be warm.
