Skirting Rain Clouds Biking Kingwood to SH 242 and Back
The weather forecast called for a 50% chance of rain today. As I set off to ride the “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route I could see dark clouds to the east and south. Prior to the ride I checked the radar and a patch of rain hovered around SH 242 but I was optimistic and began the ride at 11:08 AM.
Weather during the ride bike: start 90 (73% humidity, 79.8 dew point), partly cloudy, wind SE 5 mph. Finish 90 (71% humidity, 78.9 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind E 12 mph. Today is the first day of fall and the temperature is starting to reflect the change in seasons staying below 90 during the ride. That doesn’t mean I didn’t sweat, just not a summer sweat. When I finished the ride at 2:13 PM the gray clouds were the to the north and west.
Several times during the ride I felt rain. Sometimes it was a fine mist and other times some big drops. It never rained enough to wet the road and threaten my clean Canyon bike. I managed to get more than 24 hours out of the bike wash from Sunday. One casualty from yeaterday’s riding in the wet: my Cateye flashing tail light. It might have been damaged from the rain or the wash at the end of the ride. I ordered a replacement Nightrider light.
Today’s video covers the route and of course what I saw along the way.
Tuesday the weather forecast thinks the rain will decrease as a high pressure system moves close by. That sounds great for biking.
