Lyons Avenue Bike Lanes Ready to Ride!
Traveling in Fifth Ward has just gotten easier with the completion of bicycle travel lanes along Lyons Avenue. These bikeways are located in the heart of this historically significant community, immediately northeast of downtown. As part of the broader bikeway network in Near Northside, the first on-street bike lane has been implemented on Lyons Avenue. Construction is complete, with green paint applied at certain intersections.

Bicycle camp for for individuals with disabilities now accepting applications

iCan Shine is a non-profit organization that teaches individuals with disabilities to ride a conventional two-wheel bicycle using adapted bike equipment through its iCan Bike program.
This five-day camp, requiring riders to attend only one 75-minute session per day, is taking place June 24 – June 28 in Paris, Texas.

Copperfield, TX (June 11, 2019) – On June 8, police and emergency crews responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on FM 529, just west of Texas 6.
According to reports, a bicyclist was crossing FM 529 when he was struck by a white Dodge Ram 2500 heading east along the roadway.
The bicyclist was severely injured in the collision and airlifted to Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center for treatment. Authorities confirmed that the bicyclist succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the Dodge, who was identified as Dewayne Arkadie, was arrested and charged for driving under the influence. …

SAN ANTONIO — A grand jury indicted a woman Tuesday accused of killing a popular San Antonio surgeon in a suspected drunken driving accident.
Police said Melissa Peoples, 48, struck and killed Naji Kayruz, 58, in an alleged drunk driving crash Feb. 4. on Interstate 10. Kayruz was riding his bicycle on the access road along the 21000 block of I-10 West near Milsa Drive when Peoples was driving drunk, police said. People is accused of fleeing the scene of the accident and getting into another crash with a car further down the road. …

Texas 4000 riders stop in Pratt on trek to Anchorage, raising money to fight cancer.
Bicycle riders from Austin, Texas passed through Pratt earlier this week, part of a larger group called Texas 4000.
