POLICE REPORTS: Officer helps replace child’s stolen bike

A Lufkin Police Officer helped replace an 8-year-old’s bike that was stolen and damaged last week.
Officer Hunter Smith investigated the theft of the bike, a post shared on the Lufkin Police and Fire Facebook page said, and learned it would be a while before the bike could be replaced. With the help of the Lufkin Police Association and LPD Cares, Smith was able to replace the child’s bike, and included a helmet and lock to prevent theft as well.

We’ll start at 8:00 a.m. at Stude Park. The rest stop will be at one of the city’s independent coffee houses, so if you like coffee, and want to ride through some interesting neighborhoods, this is the ride for you. Total distance is between 20 and 25 miles.
The ride starts at Stude Park on Usener St. near Michaux St. The nearest large cross streets are White Oak and Studemont.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A stolen custom bike has made it’s way back to its owner.
Beaumont Police Detectives asked for the public’s help via Facebook Thursday while searching for the bike and a suspect.

Next week the Texas Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on widening a segment of Summerhill Road.
The purpose of the meeting is to gather public input on the proposed reconstruction and widening of FM 1397, aka Summerhill, from University Avenue to just north of North Park Road, a total length of approximately 1.6 miles, according to a notice on txdot.gov. …

College Station Council Talks About Ways To Reduce Bicycle Crashes

College Station is first in Texas and 25th in the nation among cities of at least 100,000 population in the percentage of bicyclists who commute.
Meantime, this decade has seen 297 bicycle crashes. Two thirds of the bicyclists were between the ages of 18 and 34.
