27 mph Gusts Headwind, Overcast, 200+ Mile Week Bike Ride
The wind is back! I chose the “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route which goes south and to the east into a stiff headwind until the turn around point. Wheels rolled at 10:44 AM after I watched stage 8 of the Giro d’Italia. They didn’t have wind but some damp roads in places. That may happen here later in the day.
My goal was to bike enough miles to go over 200 miles. I needed 18 miles and rode 32.56 miles putting the week total at 214.83 miles and May up to 474.65 miles, 72% of my goal. After all the rain last week the weather cooperated so I rode 6 days in a row to get these miles.
Weather during the bike ride: start 83 (79% humidity), overcast, wind S 18 mph 27 mph gusts. Finish 82 (80% humidity), overcast, wind S 15 mph 22 mph gusts. I wore shorts, short sleeve jersey, and arm sleeves. The wind made it feel cooler than I would expect for the temperature. The weather at the airport at the start and finish.
I thought I might see at least one other cyclist but none crossed my route.
Some physical data:
- average heart rate 120 bps
- max heart rate 146 bps
- average power 147 watts
- max power 463 watts
Checking my tire mileage on the Canyon:
- front tire 7,356 miles
- rear tire 7,826 miles
- Both tires are Continental GatorSkin 700×28
The tires look like they have more miles in them. One problem I have with them is the threads unraveling along the bead. I see other people have this too.
I finished the ride at 1:17 PM with a few sprinkles.
Sunday will be a rest day to prepare for next week.
