Fast Moving Rain But Wind Remains Bike Ride
After waking up this morning I checked the weather on my phone and was surprised to see a line of storms approaching. I wondered if this would stop me from biking today but as the line of rain passed quickly not much rain fell. By the time I started today’s bike ride at 11:33 AM the streets were dry and I had to look closely to see evidence that it even rained.
Selecting the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route to ride I decided to tweak some streets for variety and ended up riding 33.98 miles.
The quick moving front didn’t take the strong wind with it though. Weather during the bike ride: start 82 (67% humidity), partly cloudy, wind SE 18 mph. Finish 85 (65% humidity), mostly cloudy, wind SE 21 mph gusts 29 mph. While the front was moving through the temperature dropped into the mid 60’s but as soon as the sun came out it began warming up. That was I needed to wear a summer kit: shorts and a short sleeve jersey. The wind at the finish of the ride at 2:11 PM was very strong.
During the ride I hit 582 watts as my max power. I glanced at the Elemnt computer screen a few times and saw watts in the 400 range when I rode into the wind. Once as I rode west on FM 1960 just west of FM 2100 in front of the Chevron a strong gust caught the Canyon Endurace CF SLX and pushed me to the right sharply but I maintained control. Any time the wind wants to leave I am ready.
Maybe the wind will die down some on Friday when the high for the day could be in the upper 70’s. There is a 50% chance of rain but that probably won’t be until the evening so I should be riding.
