After A Day’s Rest 27 MPH Gusts Not So Bad Bike Ride
Well the wind is back on today’s bike ride. When I say wind I mean 20 mph with 27 mph gusts. That’s what happened on today’s bike ride as I rode on the “New Caney – Roman Forest – Valley Ranch” route to the north. Starting out at 11:38 AM I checked the NWAA app on my phone and saw what was waiting for me. Fortunately this route is to the north and the wind was from the SE so the first half of the ride was with a tailwind most of the time
I chose today’s route to get at least 40 miles to hep get closer to my 600 mile goal for April. I actually biked 41.18 miles. This put the total for April at 576.01 miles, 24 miles short of the goal. Other distance of note: my Canyon Endurace CF SLX has 9125 miles and YTD miles total 2061 now.
Besides the wind the weather was nice: start 78 (61% humidity), mostly cloudy, wind SE 12 mph gusts 22 mph. Finish 79 (60% humidity), mostly cloudy, wind SE 20 mph gusts 27 mph. I dressed lighter with shorts, long sleeve jersey and a short sleeve jersey over it. The long sleeves were for sun protection and wind chill.
While I the way back home I stopped at the New Caney ISD Stadium and took these photos to show the wind.
Surprisingly I was able to maintain food speed during the ride and built my average speed up to 14.6 mph and hold it on the way back to Kingwood. I kept it there until mile 39 when it dropped to 14.5 mph and finished up the ride with 14.3 mph at 2:39 PM.
Tuesday weather forecast looks like a repeat of today with maybe not so strong of wind. Bike ride looks favorable.
