May is National Bike Month and Rice is kicking it off with a trio of events May 7 designed to encourage greater ridership within the Rice community — even if you’ve never ridden a bike in your life.

Guadalupe, Lavaca projects
Austin Transportation, with Capital Metro and the corridor program office, will host an open house meeting from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on proposed improvements to Guadalupe and Lavaca streets.
The meeting will be at Cambridge Tower, 1801 Lavaca St.
Improvements will include a new full traffic signal at Lavaca and 18th streets, including a bus phase; a transit signal at Guadalupe Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard; striping changes on Guadalupe, 18th and Lavaca streets; a new northbound contraflow bus lane on Guadalupe between 18th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard; and upgrades to the bicycle infrastructure on those streets and a new shared use bicycle and pedestrian path on the east side of Guadalupe between 18th Street and MLK. …
