Red Blooms, 21 MPH Wind, 79 Degrees Bike Ride
Today I biked what I label the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route which is a north – south which worked well with the strong wind. Starting at 11:19 AM the ride to Tavola was easier than the return trip. I rode 36.54 miles.
Weather during the ride: start 75 (52% humidity), a few clouds, wind S 15 mph. Finish 79 (48% humidity), partly cloudy, wind SE 16 mph gusts 21 mph. Because it warmed up some I reduced my attire to shorts, heavy long sleeve jersey topped with my University of Cincinnati short sleeve jersey. This worked well and kept me comfortable even when the 21 mph gusts hit me while I was in the shade.
When I got to FM 1485 on Loop 494 TXDot was working on the ditch beside the southbound lane reducing the traffic to one lane with a flagman. This backup the traffic at the traffic light where FM 1485 crosses the railroad tracks and took several minutes for north bound traffic to move.
While biking through Tavola the blooming flowers caught my eye and I took these photos.
Biking in the headwind on the way south from Tavola was tough but I managed to hold my average speed at 14.1 mph most of the time until I reached Kings Manor when it dropped. I passed all of the schools before the traffic arrived and finished the ride at 2:08 PM.
Tuesday’s weather looks favorable for biking so I will be on the Canyon.
