Damp Start to October Bike Ride
The plan was to start October biking with a 40+ mile ride but that changed around 7 miles into the bike ride when it started raining. Before that point I stopped in Woodridge Forest and took these photos of the line of threatening clouds to the south.
After taking the photos at 5 miles into the ride I thought the clouds would not move north very fast and biking to the north on the planned route to Roman Forest where the sky included tiny patches of blue. But the rain caught me and I spotted a new house for sale with a porch and stopped there for about 40 minutes waiting for the rain to leave. It never left so I got back on the Canyon bike, changed my route to something shorter and rode towards Porter.
On the service road riding north the light rain continued so I stopped at the Valero station and waited there about 15 minutes while the blue sky to the southwest slowly move towards my location. Still the light rain continued and I changed the route to “Kingwood-Community Drive-Valley Ranch” planning to ride enough to reach the daily amount for my monthly goal of 700 miles. I actually biked 26.23 miles, slightly more than the minimum. of 22.6 miles per day.
Making the u-turn at Community Drive I now saw the blue sky to the southwest and hoped it moved my way. Biking through Valley Ranch the streets were wet but the light rain decreased some. At FM 1314 the rain still fell but when I got into Oakhurst it appeared to stop. Once I made my way to Kings Manor the streets looked dry except close to the curb but the east wind required more pedaling effort. After starting at 10:40 am I finished the bike ride 1:34 pm with the sun finally arriving.
I washed off the Canyon bike and went inside to clean up. Supposedly the weather on Tuesday will be drier and warmer. I am ready. Maybe I can ride the 40+ miles then.
