Through the Eyes of a HH100 Newbie

For over a decade, BikeTexas staff have made the six-hour trip from our home base in Austin to Wichita Falls to attend one of the oldest and largest cycling events in the country: the Hotter’N Hell 100. Now in its 37th year, the event draws riders from across the country and around the world. And for nearly as long as we’ve been going there, HH100 has been a BikeTexas Event Member, making a generous donation to bike advocacy efforts in Texas.

Kevin Marshall was 25 years old when his life was changed by a bicycle.
It was 2008, and Marshall had a comfortable life working at a car dealership in Denton. But he said he did not feel like he was living his life to the fullest. So he quit his job and bought a bike.
“I personally hadn’t ridden a bike in a really long time, and when I got a bike it gave me a freedom and a great feeling,†Marshall said. “You know when you’re outdoors you just get a good feeling? Like, this is where we were intended to be — outdoors with the trees, with the breeze on my face.†…

This year’s Conquer the Coast cancelled amid expected bad weather

Conquer the Coast, a yearly cycling event, has been cancelled due to severe weather that’s predicted for the Corpus Christi area Friday and Saturday, according to a news release from the group.
The ride takes participants around the Corpus Christi Bay. It was scheduled for Sept. 15.

Local medical associations want to help ensure the safety of local children by giving away free bicycle helmets this Saturday at the 10th Annual Hale On Wheels cycling event.
Thanks to the Hale, Floyd and Briscoe Medical Association as well as Covenant Health Plainview’s Foundation and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, children who sign up for the cruiser event can get free bicycle helmets from 5-7 p.m. on Sept. 14 at the Ollie Liner Center in Plainview or from 8-8:45 a.m. at the same location just before the start of the Hale On Wheels’ Cruiser Ride on Saturday. …
