Fall Like Heavy Sky But No Rain Bike Ride
When I set out on today’s bike ride at 10:25 am I wasn’t sure about completing the route I chose because the sky looked like rain was eminent. The route went north while the heavy clouds appeared to be more to the southeast but the more I biked north on the “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route the heavy sky was that direction too. I thought a few times about altering the route and heading back home but I stuck with the plan though and didn’t add any side streets like I do sometimes for extra miles. I bicycled 33.44 miles which was great for adding to my August total now at 887.45 miles.
At Community Drive and The Grand Parkway the raised roadway looked like a good place to take photos of the sky to see the rain clouds in the distance.
The weather during the bike ride: 82 (88% humidity), mostly cloudy, wind SE 7 mph. Finish 79 (82% humidity), overcast, wind E 10 mph. No 90 degrees on this ride but the humidity made up for it. It felt like a fall day with the finishing temperature lower than the starting temperature. For some reason the wind seemed stronger requiring more pedaling effort. I managed to get my overall average speed up to 14.1 mph but didn’t hold it there for long settling back to 14.0 mph until mile 30 back in Kingwood.
Biking south from SH 242 took more energy than my legs could produce without a rest so when I got to the Circle K/Valero at Northpark Drive and I-69/US59 I stopped for about 10 minutes. I refilled my water and ice went outside to sit by the propane tanks hoping the rain didn’t move my direction. It didn’t and from there it was about 7 miles to the end of the bike ride. I avoided the rain but the sweat generated more than made up for the rain missed. I ended the bike ride at 1:13 pm without getting rained on which was a concern when I started.
I watched all of the Vuelta a Espana stage today before leaving on the ride.
Thursday biking could face some rain issues again and my schedule will probably push any biking to late morning.
