Optimistic As I Trailed the Rain Bike Ride
Punching the start button on the Elemnt at 10:11 am I rolled away to ride the “Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman” route. The weather forecast had the chance of rain around 50% but the sky in Kingwood was mostly blue though the view was restricted by all of the trees. As the trees thinned out some I saw the saw had lots of clouds to the south and east. But that wouldn’t stop me from biking 33.66 miles today.
Weather during the bike ride: start 89 (72% humidity), mostly cloudy, Wind S 7 mph. Finish 89 (66% humidity), mostly cloudy, wind 4 mph. during the bike ride: When I rode through Atascocita South and Walden the clouds to the east looked threatening but I continued riding. Once I got to Fairlake Drive east of Lake Houston the street showed signs of recent rain with damp spots where the shadows protruded over the road. Not enough to cause a spray from the tires. I was optimistic that the rain would not fall on me today. The clouds may be the reason the temperature didn’t get into the 90’s before I ended the ride. Not long after I was inside it did jump up to 94 so I dodged the heat but not the humidity.
A brief stop at the Huffman Chevron for water and ice and I was back on the bike. The ride west was easier with a slight tailwind. To the northwest as I rode over lake Houston the clouds looked like rain. My optimism held as I made the right turn onto Pinehurst Trail. Around mile 27 a light mist appeared for a few seconds but disappeared and I thought that was the last of the rain but back in Kingwood the streets were much wetter and the clean Canyon bike now got dirty from the spray. The wet streets ended about a mile from the finish allowing the Canyon to dry off by the time I reached the nde of the ride at 12:43 pm. After opening the garage door I returned to the bike and washed it off with water. So much for my optimism.
The rain may hang around for a few days but is not certain so I plan on biking.
