Cooler Start for August Bike Ride
Much different for today’s bike ride compared to yesterday. The weather during today’s bike ride: start 83 (73% humidity), fair, wind N 8 mph. Finish 90 (49% humidity), a few clouds, wind N 9 mph. No rain obviously which helped to cool the area down for a day or so.
To start August biking I chose the “New Caney – Gene Campbell Road” route and rode 38.31 miles. My goal for August is 800 miles and this is almost 5% of that. Only 761.7 miles to go.I rolled out at 10:06 am and finished at 12:52 pm.
When I took a side street from Gene Campbell Road to add half a mile to the ride I stopped and took these photos.
My son-in-law is named Christopher so I sent him the photo. He got a laugh from it. Even with the rain the grass is struggling to stay green.
One stop at the Circle K/Valero on FM 1314 at Sorters Road for ice and water. With the cooler temperature that was enough to carry me to the finish.
The light wind wasn’t much a problem during the ride and for a change it was a tailwind on the FM 1314 section from Gene Campbell Road to Old Sorters Road. This helped me build up my overall average speed to 14.6 mph and keep it there until I was back into Kingwood.
After the rain stopped yesterday I washed the Canyon bike and it was nice and clean for today’s ride.
Today’s weather should repeat tomorrow and I plan on taking advantage of it.
