Fixit Stands are Popping Up around Houston
The second of five Bike Fixit Stands has been installed at the Waterworks at Buffalo Bayou Park. The stand is there for users to make minor bike repairs while they are enjoying a ride along the Bayou. The downtown Tax Increment Financing Zone board on Thursday will consider swallowing three big pedestrian-oriented projects in one big bite.
The board will consider an $8.9 million bond to fund a decorative lighting project on four downtown underpasses, several blocks of lighted sidewalks near Magnolia Market and a complete renovation of the historical Suspension Bridge.

House Republicans put the brakes on the federal bureaucracy Wednesday by advancing a bill to allow bicycles and wheelchairs in federal wilderness areas for the first time in 40 years.
The House Natural Resources Committee approved on a 22-18 vote H.R. 1349, which amends the Wilderness Act to allow for non-motorized vehicles, including bikes and wheelchairs, as well as motorized wheelchairs. …

This could be the beginning of the end of bike rides on SH 242. Traffic will probably increase to the point that biking will not be safe. Currently traffic on SH 242 is not very heavy.
Grand Texas breaks ground on Houston-area theme parks

NEW CANEY, Texas – Grand Texas will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for two new theme parks that will be added to the recreation complex in New Caney, just northeast of Houston.
The entire 630-acre park will be located near the intersection of State Highway 242 and Interstate 69.
