Goals Motivate Determination Bike Ride
Goals motivate me. Good thing for this. About 1 mile into the bike ride as I rode through Sherwood Trails Village in Kingwood I rounded a corner I passed many times and a little brown and white dog started barking running into the street chasing me. I wasn’t too concerned about getting bit since he was small but the dog darted in front of me several times causing me to think what to do if I ran over him. Pedaling faster I tried to out run him but he was fast for a little dog staying with me for almost half a block. Finally he gave up and I rode off. Not a good start biking the “Stroker Road – Huffman” route.
I was determined to ride because I needed the miles to have a chance to reach my goal for April. Before the ride started I needed 94 miles and I wanted to ride at least 37 to improve my opportunity to reach it. I ended up bicycling 41.61 miles putting me at 720 miles for April and 52 miles left. I will miss biking tomorrow leaving Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The weather could be a problem but I am thinking positively.
Speaking of weather and determination. The sky was overcast when I start cycling at 11:31 but I figured it would not get worse and rain. The temperature was expected to be warm and it was 87 when I finished the ride at 2:48. As I bike east over Lake Houston on FM 1960 a light mist fell off and on but I kept riding hoping it would stop. It stopped but after crossing FM 2100 on Old Atascocita Road the few cars coming from the east had their windshield wipers on. Staying optimistic I continued biking east on Old Atascocita Road in a light mist for about a mile or so and then it stopped. Rounding the corner onto Ramsey Road I saw what looked like a cloud on the road. The rain increased from a mist to sprinkling getting my glasses wet and the Elemnt screen covered with drops. By the time I made the zig-zag at Peters Road the sprinkles left and the mist returned. Finally the sun shone a little as I rode south on Ramsey Road getting ready to turn right onto Stroker Road. Once on Stroker Road the mist stopped and it stayed dry until the end of the ride.
The wind was from the south at 9 mph with gusts to 18 mph. The headwind bogged me down and made riding in the mist longer than I liked.
Another problem popped up around 6 miles into the ride when the PowerPod stopped sending a signal to the Elemnt computer. I pushed the start button on the PowerPod but it wouldn’t connect. Not sure what the problem might be. After I finished the ride I plugged the PowerPod into the charger and it signaled no charging needed. I will connect it to the Isaac software to see if it tell me anything. So the power data is not complete today.
Good news on the Blue Norcross AL bike bottom bracket bearing. While on the ride I got a call from Bike Werks that the bearing was replaced and everything is working smoothly. Jeremy said he found a bearing in in his inventory and didn’t need to order it.
