2,300-mile bike ride ends in Chicago on Father’s Day to recognize dads

David Hirsch concedes cycling 2,350 miles for 21 days straight isn’t logical.
But Hirsch did just that, loosely following Route 66 from Santa Monica, Calif., and arriving in Chicago on Father’s Day. He hoped to honor the value of fathers in their children’s lives through his ride.
Hirsch, from the Barrington area, ended his bike ride Sunday morning at Progressive Baptist Church next to U.S. Cellular Field and immediately spent the next hour talking to reporters. He planned to talk to the church congregation and be introduced during the White Sox game. …
… Throughout the ride, Hirsch, 54, was joined for days at a time by supporters — including members of other fatherhood-focused organizations, a Lincolnshire high-school student and the executive director of a German-based fatherhood program who traveled to the U.S. for the ride. His youngest daughter rode along for a week, and the oldest of his five children joined him between Amarillo, Texas, and Oklahoma City. …

Appointed by City Council.

Committee members shall serve two-year terms except as follows: Places 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 expire in odd-numbered years (October 1, 2017); and Places 2, 4, 6 and 8 expire in even-numbered years (October 1, 2016).
