Today, the League of American Bicyclists recognized Richardson, Texas with a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community (BFCSM) award, joining 350 visionary communities from across the country.
With the announcement of 42 new and renewing BFCs today, Richardson joins a leading group of communities, in all 50 states, that are transforming our neighborhoods.

It starts in the snow in Banff, Alberta Canada and winds its way 2,745 miles through the United States and ends in the deserts of Mexico.

On the longest annual charity bicycle ride in the world, the Texas 4000 team will be rolling through Pine Bluff on Sunday just 16 days after departing from Austin, Texas, on their way to Anchorage, Alaska.
While in Pine Bluff, the Texas 4000 Team will celebrate and share hope, knowledge and charity with friends and family before continuing on their 70-day journey.
The 72 undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Texas will brave the rain, sleet, wind, snow, heat and pedal more than 4,000 miles in the fight against cancer. After 18 months of leadership development training, volunteering, fundraising, and cycling, riders are put to the test throughout their summer ride to Alaska.
Along their journey, they will visit with cancer survivors, patients, caregivers, and communities to make educational presentations about cancer prevention and early detection. They also use this time to …

Virgil and Lacey Tanner’s Yorkshire Terriers — Bug, Doodle, Cecil and Hazel — pop their heads out of their biking carriage on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 in San Antonio’s Travis Park. Virgil “Evan” Tanner and his wife, Lacey, along with their Yorkies are biking across the country from Ocean Beach California to St. Augustine, Florida to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drugs. Virgil and Lacey are riding in honor of Tanner’s brother, Damon, who died two years ago after taking unprescribed pain pills. “Despite the hardships, there’s a reason we’re doing it,” Virgil said.
Virgil “Evan†Tanner and his wife, Lacey, aren’t professional cyclists, but they’re riding coast to coast in memory of a loved one, hoping to prevent other families from experiencing their pain.

Spring resident, a Texas hero, riding to raise deaf awareness

Texas has a hero in it and his name is Erik Richenberger.
For 13 years the Spring resident has helped saved lives as a paramedic and now he is racing to help others hear. He is particpating in the Tour Divide Race in efforts of raising awareness and funds so deaf people without insurance can receive cochlear implants.
“I learned about the race through a documentary called, “Ride the Divide.†A race of this proportion naturally touches the desire to seek adventure and do something grand with your life even if it is just once,†he said.
