Emma and Eric Guerrero of San Benito set practical bicycling goals for their family.
The couple said they plan to bring their youngsters — Benjamin 5, and Betty, 7, students at Laureles Elementary School in Los Fresnos — to the Harlingen-San Benito Metropolitan Planning Organization’s 3rd Annual Family Bike Ride in McKelvey Park in Harlingen on Saturday morning to enjoy some togetherness and remain physically active. YBC Urban Trail (Oak Hill Y to Barton Creek)
by 512Â Â Â Â Â Â www.bikemojo.com
There is a proposal to build an urban trail from the Y in Oak Hill to the new ped bridge over mopac. I’ve recently received the proposal from someone in my HOA and it looks like the city is proposing to use the Travis Country end of the sweet 16 corridor. Now, if they were to do what they did for the Violet Crown Trail on the BCG end, I think that would be reasonable. A little sanitation, but I can live with that. However, if they plan to actually put in the 8 foot wide ADA path with 20 foot buffers shown in the solicitation I think I’ll have to object.
Does anyone know if they’re planning to follow the formula for VCT or if they’re actually going to pave it? I have an HOA meeting next Thursday and I’d like to be armed with as much factual information as possible. I’d also like to know the opinions of this group of …

It was definitely a soggy start to the day, but THANK YOU to everyone who rode their bicycle to work this morning! Also, a HUGE THANK YOU to all the groups who sponsored BTWD Energizer Stations and persevered through the rain showers and mist this morning. The tacos and bananas and coffee and bicycle-shaped pens were all very much appreciated. It was fantastic to see how the Dallas bicycle community is growing and coming together. In addition, some commuters who were …
