Craddock set to soak in experience at Liege
By Spencer Powlison      velonews.competitor.com
LIEGE, Belgium (VN) — Lawson Craddock is an eager student of the sport. Whether it’s in the mountainous, week-long tours in Spain or the hilly Ardennes classics, the Giant-Alpecin rider is happy to be back in the classroom, in the WorldTour peloton.
His early season was blighted by a nasty crash at the Tour Down Under, but the 23-year-old American jumped back into racing, after many hours on the indoor trainer, at the Volta a Catalunya and then the Vuelta al PaÃs Vasco.
“I was really happy with how I was feeling in those two races,†he said. “Especially coming back from an …

Paralyzed Rider Spurs Trek Bicycle Recall
www.amarolawfirm.com
An accident that left a cyclist in a wheelchair has spurred a Trek bicycle recall of nearly a million of the company’s bicycles. The product recall covers bicycles manufactured from 2000 to 2015. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the Trek bicycle recall when news of the 2014 accident hit the press earlier this week. At least two other riders were injured due to a faulty quick-release lever on the bicycle’s front wheel.

Day 8 La Grange, TX to Lake Somerville, TX: Met another cycle tourer today
Thursday April 23, 2015, 42 miles (68 km) – Total so far: 277 miles (445 km)
weather: 67-85F, no wind, partly cloudy road conditions: lot more ups than down leaving the Colorado river valley. fairly busy traffic with no shoulder most of the day, stayed glued on rear view mirror. moving avg. 7.5 mph. saddle time 5:33
Left Oak motel in La Grange around 0900. Went by the 66 year old bakery on the town square but only sweet stuff, so I went down the road and settled for a Sonic breakfast sandwich. Headed out NE on hwy. 159 and then hwy. 237. This route takes you through the towns of Warrenton and Round Top which are known for weekend antique flea markets. Thank goodness it is a weekday, as I hear the traffic is very busy on spring and fall weekends. You could see the infrastructure for all the activities and everything was closed even the eateries. Round Top was a very pretty town I thought. I did take a short break there. A local cyclist caught up me and …
Day 9 LK Somerville to College Station, TX: bike problems
Friday April 24, 2015, 42 miles (68 km) – Total so far: 319 miles (513 km)
Woke at 0520 in morning to the sound of rain and distant thunder. I got up to rain fly on. Mike and I were prepared to do this as we knew there were morning storms in forecast. We left fly off as it was a warm and muggy night. I checked the radar on smartphone and saw lots of storms coming our way. I decided to take up camp now rather later. Mike stayed in bed as he had short 25 mile day planned to Navasota and a hotel reservation. I went a couple of hundreds over to a empty group pavilion with roof as it started to rain harder. There was Harley group rally planned for the weekend. There was a food vendor near battling the elements. The storm blew and at least 50 mph. outflow winds and driving rain. I was even getting a little mist blowing through the covered pavilion. As the storm subdued, the food vendor cooked up some sausage gravy and biscuits plus coffee. I texted Mike to let him know. He was afraid to leave the tent as it may blow away. He finally pulled camp and joined me for breakfast. Sure is nice for a biker to have hot breakfast without having to ride the bike in search of food. At 0930 were finally able to …
Day 10-College Station, TX to Richards, TX: a meat cooker day and I was the meat!
Saturday April 25, 2015, 41 miles (66 km) – Total so far: 360 miles (579 km)
The day started like yesterday to sounds of thunder except I was in house. As a practical thinker, I went back to sleep. I finally started ride at 0950. There were good bike lanes leaving this college town. I made a quick stop at HEB for groceries before heading into the rural areas. My goal today was only 41 miles to Richards, TX and cyclist only camp. Temps were 75F starting warming to 87 with sunny sky and light south winds. Perfect for porch sitting but a bit toasty on a loaded tour bike. I took plenty of water and shade breaks even though I was feeling strong and the bike was working well. I had changed my gear ratio to 11-32 cassette(the 9 rear sprocket thingy for non bikers) which made pedaling up hills easier for me and you know by reading my blog that I needed the help. At mile 23 into ride I came upon an unexpected Cajun café. I expected only cows and …
