I have been battling sinus problems the last two days. This keeps me off the bike. Maybe I can shake this by Monday.

TxDOT, Chamber hosts ribbon cutting for hike and bike trail in Kountze

KOUNTZE, Texas – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) joined by the Kountze Chamber of Commerce, elected officials, bike enthusiasts and community members gathered on October 17,  to celebrate the opening of the long-awaited Hardin County Hike and Bike Trail
The nearly seven-mile long trail stretches along side U.S. 69 from the Super 8 Motel in Kountze to FM 420 near the Big Thicket Visitors Center. Construction for the $2.7 million project began in January.
Kountze Mayor Fred Williams welcomed the crowd of about 50 to the city and expressed thanks and gratitude to all who helped make the trail a reality. There was a lot of running, jumping, pedaling and smiling going on Friday at Keys Gymnasium on the East Texas Baptist University campus, as more than a 100 pre-kindergartners and a dozen ETBU students played together during field activities.

I’m a member of a Meetup group, the Austin Mountain Bikers. Earlier this week, I got a message from them that an interpretive mountain bike ride would take place at Bastrop State Park in Bastrop, Texas, about 25 miles east of Austin. We would be led by a park ranger on trails that are normally closed to the public. Sign me up.

Despite an overly soft mattress, and despite sharing a room with a dad who snores, I woke up on Thursday from my best night’s sleep of the trip. I know this because my Sleep Cycle app awarded me 93% sleep quality.
