Quite a pair: Testicular cancer survivors cycling across the country to spread awareness
By Victor R. Martinez / El Paso Times
When it comes to testicular cancer, many men take the “it’ll never happen to me” approach.
“A lot of young men have that Superman complex where they feel nothing can hurt them and they don’t need to go see a doctor,” said Chris Olsen, a testicular cancer survivor who is cycling across the country to talk about the importance of monthly self exams.
“Testicular cancer is the number one cancer in men 15 to 35 years of age,” Olsen said. “We just want to make sure that these guys know it’s OK to go see a doctor. If you notice anything different, you better go, it’s better to be safe than sorry. It doesn’t make you weak, it just…

Favorite Rides – The Zoo Ride
Bike Noob
When I consider rides I like, it’s easy to overlook the Zoo Ride. That’s because it’s not as long as most of our other marquee rides. But it does have a lot of features that make it worthy of consideration. In fact, our club has an informal “Friday Zoo Ride†that I might be able to join one of these years. In the meantime, I have mostly ridden it by myself.
As the name suggests, the Zoo Ride heads to the Austin Zoo. Our zoo is not in the city, but is several miles west. From our neighborhood, we get a quick taste of the hills that highlight the Zoo Ride. We take an easy climb through one…
“Biking in Texas? Why?â€
by alexthepuffin      alexbikes.wordpress.com
The title of this post is the most common response when I tell people we’re taking a two-week vacation in Texas. Anouk and I struggle to find vacation destinations that feature both good birding and biking. Texas promises to be a new experience. I’m going to bike solo from the north west to the south east for ten days, then meet up with Anouk for a few days of birding, then fly back from Houston. …
