Top female cyclist Nicole Mitchell departed for Texas yesterday to step up preparations for arguably the busiest season of her career.
The 30-year old will launch her campaign at next month’s Tour of New Braunfels in the Lone Star state before jetting off to Arizona for the Valley of the Sun and Tucson Bicycle Classic.
All three events will provide Mitchell with ideal training for May’s Pan American Continental Championships in Guatemala.

From Maypearl a Grand View – Lone Star Cyclists
Pace: Touring with a Fast Pace Option (Touring is a varied pace with frequent stops averaging 12-15 mph)
Date: Saturday, February 1, 2014 – 8:30am
Location: Maypearl High School, 600 Phillips St, 76064
GPS 32.316025,-97.01756
Distances: 41 and 60 Miles
Mark O’Maypearl (Mark Robinson) has worked out a couple of real nice routes for us down south.
His 41 miler (From Maypearl a Grand View of Something Auburn) takes us from Maypearl over to Itasca, Grandview, Auburn and back to the high school.
His 60 mile route (From Maypearl Turn Corner Midway to Pluto) leaves Maypearl, heads to Itasca, Carl’s Corner, Midway, Milford, Dale’s Acre, and Pluto before returning to Maypearl.
It’s a pretty good bet both of these routes will have cows lining the roads to see their favorite Lone Star Cyclists ride by. The rolling country roads will also have dips and climbs granting us intimate closeness with…

Shortly after the passage of Austin’s Vulnerable Road User Ordinance, the Austin Police Department released this video to demonstrate how to pass safely. In addition to the agency’s Safe Biking sting, the PSA is a complimentary way in which the Austin PD has taken steps to apply its local safe passing law and acknowledge that it’s effectiveness lies in its enforcement.
“Vulnerable Road User Ordinance violations are very hard to observe and enforce,†said Austin Police Commander Fred Fletcher. “It is our hypothesis that most VRUO violations occur because motor vehicle operators are simply unaware of how dangerous it is – and how it feels – for a…
