Finally Back on the Bike Again – September 24th Bike Ride
Today is the first ride since my crash on September 3rd. I went for physical therapy this morning and one of the exercises was the stationary bike. I rode for 6 minutes and my left leg felt good so I took this as a sign to get back on my bike. To limit the speed and distance I rode my Motobecane 700HT mountain bike on the Kingwood Trails. One of my concerns was the muscles in my butt around the sit bones. This is where I landed in the crash and sitting on hard surfaces caused a problem. I figured a bike seat ought to be a challenge. This turned out to be the case as I road over bumps in the trail. At first it did not bother me but as the miles increased I stood up more and more.
The crash took place 3 weeks ago today. Riding on the trails had a fall flavor even though the temperature was in the lower 90’s.
This was the first ride with my Garmin Edge 510 to get used to how it works. There are several differences from the Edge 500 that got crushed in the crash. After the ride I figured out how to change the data shown on the first screen but I think the lap distance needs to be marked by pushing the left button on the 510 while riding. In the 500 the lap distance could be preset at various distances.
I plan on riding more this week but only on my mountain bike. Next week I think the road bike will be an option.
