Past Habits – August 4th Bike Ride
Past habits are hard to break. Case in point is today’s ride when I hesitated on wearing a long sleeve jersey. I was leaving later than normal (11:35) and it was already 90 degrees (55% humidity and a light breeze). The old thought is that short sleeves will be cooler but I am slowly coming around. The long sleeve was all white so maybe that has something to do with it but I felt cooler and perspired less. While I stopped at the Huffman Chevron the paper towels I normally use to sop up the sweat were not as wet as when I wear short sleeves. Not a very scientific evaluation but I like it. By the time I got back (1:45) the temperature moved up to 97 (40% humidity) and still a light 4.6 mph breeze at the big airport.
Apparently other bicyclists were willing to brave the heat. I saw 4 others along my route to Huffman and back. I decided to take a basic route today since I got the late start after church. I ended up riding 28.05 miles and averaged 15.7 mph. My mileage for the week totaled 211.39, August miles are up to 107.18 and year to date I am at 4358 miles.
No biking tomorrow. My wife is having cataract surgery and will not be able to move around too much. May be I will be riding on Tuesday.
