The Texas A&M Transportation Institute kicked off its ‘Share the Road, Texas’ campaign Tuesday to increase bicycle safety and awareness.
There were 56 bicycle fatalities in Texas in 2012, a 19.1 percent increase from 2011, according to statistics from the Texas Department of Transportation. Laura Higgins, an associate research scientist with the Center for Transportation Safety at TTI, said the campaign, which is sponsored by the TxDOT, hopes to increase awareness and education about the laws and rules of…

Car users would prefer separated bike lanes too, study finds
by Michael Andersen      www.peopleforbikes.org
There’s no question: some car drivers hate sharing the road with bikes. But a growing body of evidence shows that the majority of urban auto users prefer bike lanes – especially physically separated ones.
The latest proof comes from Rebecca Sanders, a transportation planning scholar at the University of California-Berkeley.
As reported last month by Streetsblog DC, Sanders conducted surveys of people arriving at various locations on San Pablo Avenue in the East San Francisco Bay (pictured above) by foot, car, transit and bike, asking what amenities would make them feel…

BikeDFW Works To Teach Adults How To Ride Bicycles
by Richard Wezensky
Several members of BikeDFW are League Cycling Instructors. We typically teach the Traffic Skills 101 course at various times throughout the year. That’s not the only course we teach.
BikeDFW was contacted by several folks about having a class to teach adults how to ride a bicycle. We learned that there was enough interest in this course, that we decided to offer it.
Many of our available instructors were not fully trained in teaching this course, so we reached out to Gail Copus Spann, who is not only an LCI, but also trains them. Gail was able to…

by nelsnelson      bicycleaustin.info
This bicycle was incredibly valuable to me emotionally, but I did not keep it as securely as I should have done. I just moved to Austin a few months ago, and I live in a small apartment in the northwest near Braker Lane and Jollyville.
You don’t know how valuable some things are until they’re taken from you. This is just a bike, so it’s not the end of the world — but it was important to…
