Tour de Grass Farms – July 10th Bike Ride
I got a late start on today’s Tour de Grass Farms ride leaving home at 11:16 with the temperature sitting at 90 degrees. Scattered clouds and a light breeze completed the weather set. I decided to wear a blue long sleeve jersey for sun blocking which surprisingly is not as hot as you would think. One thing I noticed is the sweat running down my arms is not near as heavy with a short sleeve jersey. Head sweat is still heavy though. By the time I returned home at 2:18 it was 97 degrees. While I was taking a break at the Huffman Chevron the Action Sign banner said 91.
The late start is because I watched stage 11 of the Tour de France. Many of the riders were traveling over 40 mph, way beyond my ability unless it is downhill.
Covering the 38.85 mile route at an average of 16.2 mph reflects the light wind and legs willing to turn the pedals. The direction today was opposite of the last couple of times going east on Old Atascocita Road until it intersected with Ramsey Road where I turned south to get to Stroker Road and the leg north on FM2100 to Huffman. Before I rode south on FM2100 to Stroker Road and then back roads to FM2100 and on to Huffman. The back roads usually have little to no traffic but today it was busier. I guess 10 cars and trucks passed me until I got on FM2100.
July mileage stands at 288.86. Year to date moved to 3614 and the week’s total is 73.99 miles. I stand a good chance of getting to 4000 miles by the end of the month.
The high temperatures in the forecast fell below 100 to the high 90’s. Whew!
