From the mag: Charity rides lead the pack
by Doug McClellan      www.bicycleretailer.com
RYE, NY (BRAIN) — While the biggest charity “thons†were flat or slightly down in 2012, most dedicated to cycling saw healthy increases.
“When we look at the results, the really strong results are in the cycling area,†said David Hessekiel, president of the Cause Marketing Forum. The forum publishes the annual Run Walk Ride 30, which tracks the top 30 charity athletic fundraisers.
Pelotonia was the fastest-growing big program in America on a percentage basis. It raised $16.9 million in 2012, up nearly 29 percent from the prior year, a rate Hessekiel said…
Cycling lanes planned for Toll 49

KLTV.com-Tyler, Longview, Jacksonville, Texas | ETX News
TYLER, TX (KLTV) – Friday morning, the Tyler Biking Club met with toll road officials to discuss plans on creating a bike lane on Toll Road 49.
The lane would travel beside vehicles on the toll road, off on the right hand shoulder of the road. Tyler Simpson, a member of the Tyler Biking Club, believes the toll road is ideal and safe.
“It has a good shoulder, limited access, it has limited entrances and exits,” said Simpson.
The new cycling lane will cost the Tyler Biking Club $60,000, which has all been collected by…
Dam Loop, Dirt Remedy and Feeling Sluggish
by TCÂ Â Â Â Â Â www.turnincranks.com
On Father’s Day, I snuck out in the wee hours of the morning and did my first ever ‘Dam Loop’, a 42 mile loop around the Lake Austin. It’s a pretty popular route for the roadies and I had been wanting to try it out, but just hadn’t taken the time. Typically when I have 3 hours to ride, I’ll go hit some good dirt somewhere, but a neighbor talked me into a road ride this morning.
We took it pretty easy, keeping effort well below threshold. I hadn’t done a road ride like this so I wasn’t sure what to expect really. So a nice and easy ride worked out well. In the…

Friends Remember Aggie Cyclist Killed in Crash as Passionate, Joyful
By: Michael Oder      www.kbtx.com
COLLEGE STATION A Texas A&M graduate and cyclist is being remembered tonight. Jackie Price Dunn, Class of 2002, died in what many in the cycling world are calling a freak accident Tuesday at a Velodrome in San Diego.
Dunn was knocked off her bike and the fall left her brain dead. She was kept alive at a hospital, but doctors said there would be no change.
Friends and family say Dunn was a woman of passion for Christ and people.
“College Station still had this place in her heart,” remembers Rachel Markham. Telling stories and looking at pictures of her friend Jackie, she can’t stop laughing.
The memories she has of her friend are…
