Flag Day – June 14th Bike Ride
Today is Flag Day so I was on the lookout for special flag displays. My route through Kingwood, Atascocita, Walden and Huffman offered plenty of flags and I found the best one on Atascocita Shores Drive on the way back home. Here is what I saw:
I almost rode past this display and turned back 50 feet to get the photo.
The weather was hot today starting at 85 degrees as I pulled out of the driveway at 10:00 and 94 as I arrived back home at 12:39. I could have used a little more of a breeze to help keep cool. Partly cloudy skies let the sun shine and heat things up. When I stopped in Huffman for a drink and rest it took about 15 minutes for my body to cool down enough to stop pouring sweat on my arms. I did enjoy some cooling wind riding west on FM1960 from Huffman to my turn onto Atascocita Shores Drive. I went through two water bottles over the 31.89 mile route. Average speed was 15.4 mph thanks to some help from the breeze.
Nothing unusual about today’s ride but I did notice the dead bug piles on the east bound shoulder over Lake Houston have largely disappeared along with their aroma.
