Bike through nature at Texas state parks
by Mary G. Ramos      www.dallasnews.com
Maybe you relish biking your way through rugged mountain terrain. Or you like to go biking with your family, which includes a couple of children. You can do both at state parks, wheeling your way through meadows and woods and beside rivers and lakes.
Check out the biking chart on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s website. It lists parks with…

Elite Tour Recap
Pacific Atlantic Cycling Tour
The Elite Tour finished in Savannah, Georgia May 28th. There were 26 riders and a crew of 10 who attempted this fast paced “tour” across America. Most days ranged from 150 to 200 miles per day during this 17 day event. The riders needed to be at their best everyday as the extremes of weather and miles added obstacles along the way.
The first three days included a heat wave that made the desert hotter than it should have been in May raising the thermometer to 108 degrees. Fortunately the tail winds were favorable across the western states and riders were able to average over 20 mph some days. The tornadoes in Oklahoma added more drama through the middle of the country. We rode through the remains of some damaged areas and only had to dive for cover once.
The numerous rolling hills of the eastern states took their toll on tired legs. Many riders rationed their energy the final days and the tour ended just in time. The crew and riders did a great job of keeping their focus and completing this challenging ride. The following are the 18 riders who completed everyday within the deadlines for the tour and qualified for the Race Across America.

Bike Across America to Raise Awareness for Niemann-Pick Type C
by sraich      bicycleaustin.info
Greetings, I am a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and I am writing to let you know that a ND professor is riding his bike from Long Beach, CA to Baltimore over the course of about a month to raise money for and awareness of Niemann-Pick Type C (NPC) disease. He is blowing through Austin in early July and his publicist has asked our alumni club to put together some sort of event and we are in the process of doing that. Most likely that will be a casual happy hour type of thing at one of Austin’s bike shops. He is also asking for us to try to get some people to ride the last 30 miles or so with him as he comes into Austin from Brady, TX. This will occur on…
