Cyclists in Suits – our first experience as professional bike advocates
by Adam and Lauren Finck, PeopleForBikes.org West Crew
Adam and Lauren Finck are one of our two new PeopleForBikes.org event crews. They hail from Lubbock, Texas, and were introduced to bike advocacy through their work coaching the local high school mountain bike team. We’ll be announcing our 2013 crews in full in the next week, but Adam and Lauren were so psyched about their new jobs that they already traveled to Austin for the state bike lobbying day. Here’s their story about their first experience as professional advocates for bicycling.
Heading to the bike race, we piled nearly everything we owned into our little red pickup truck. A truck better known as Clifford the Big Red Dog…or Clif for short. This trip carried a different feel compared to the…

Austin cycling team rides to Alaska in fight against cancer
This summer, 71 University of Texas at Austin students will take a 70-day journey to Anchorage, Alaska, on a charity bicycle ride that is more than twice as long as the Tour de France.
The students are part of Texas 4000, an organization that hosts the longest charity bicycle ride for cancer awareness in the world. On June 2, the Texas 4000 team will split into three groups, each with their own route to Alaska. The team will sleep in churches, gymnasiums, campsites and homes of host…

San Antonio Wheelmen April Edition of The Pedaler
The Pedaler Newsletter
As I sit in my hotel room in Silicon Valley, I’m thinking about what Thursday, March 28, will be like for me. I’m going to head to the airport on Thursday morning and catch a flight to Dallas. After sitting in Dallas for a short time, I’ll board a flight to San Antonio. Shortly after touching down in San Antonio, I’ll begin my drive to…
Velossimo Cycling Club
The Wheelbrothers
Who founded the club and how did it come to life?
Velossimo was formed back in September of 2005 by myself and I recruited a few other guys I was racing with at the time who were racing unattached. We thought it would be fun to start our own new team and I wanted to do something that gave back to the local community. It was a great experience but I didn’t realize at the time just how much time and work was involved in getting sponsors, designing kits/uniforms, and just generally getting a bunch of individual bike racers organized to compete together as a team. It has been a very…

Have you noticed Deep Ellum’s new bike fixit repair station?
Bike on Fixit Station
The Fixit includes all the tools necessary to perform basic repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. The tools and air pump are securely attached to the stand with stainless steel cables and tamper-proof fasteners. Hanging the bike from the hanger arms allows the pedals and wheels to spin freely while making adjustments. …
MOAR INTERVALS!!
by TCÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Turnin’ Cranks
Boy, these twice a week interval sessions are getting old, and hard to stay motivated for. So I decided to change it up a bit this week just for a little break.
On Tuesday, I broke out the road bike and was planning to just do a steady state 90 minute ride or so. Unfortunately about 45 minutes into the ride, my rear tire decided to turn to shreds which brought the ride to a stop.
I called up a buddy who has been training for a triathlon in May. We’ve been trying to hook up for a ride for months but things just never seemed to work out. We finally had a chance…
