Compensating – February 7th Bike Ride
I compensated for today’s ride. I expected 81 degrees (based on the weather forecast) but settled for 71 degrees. To compensate I wore leg warmers, a long sleeve jersey, a short sleeve jersey, bike shorts and a windbreaker jacket. I overdressed but I was comfortable. My gauge for overdressing is the amount of sweat I generate. At the end of the ride my bandana was soaked, both jerseys were soaked and the jacket damp around the edges. Overcast skies and a 9 mph SW breeze did not help me get warm at the start.
Tuesday I rode to the south and east so today I rotated to the north going up US59 to Community Drive and then turning back to the south going through Valley Ranch. This route totaled 28.76 miles at a 15.0 mph average speed. This brings the week’s miles up to 76.73 and February miles now total 135.28.
Yesterday was an off day due to rain so I did some maintenance on my road bike by waxing the chain. I was reading the latest issue of Velo magazine and they did a comparison of various chain lubes. Paraffin wax came out on top. I use a Fry Baby to melt the wax and dip the chain in it. The best feature of wax is being able to touch the chain and not get coated in grease. The downside to wax is the waxing frequency increases which means a removable master link comes in very handy.
