Texas Bicycling Blog and News Roundup for November 17th
DATES Post-Thanksgiving Ride
Dallas Area Tandem Enthusiasts
When:Â Â Â Â Nov 23, 2012 – Nov 25, 2012
Where:Â Â Â Thee Hubbell House Bed and Breakfast – Winnsboro
Category:Â Â Â Â DATES ride
Description
DATES has scheduled a post-Thanksgiving ride (Fri., Sat. and Sun.) for several years. These
have been either in the Hill Country or East Texas. There was no ride last year due to lack of
interest.
This year we are planning on going to Winnsboro, Texas again. Winnsboro, in Wood County,
is great for cycling because of the many, many paved Farm to Market and County roads and
the relatively few cars. We’ll have shorter rides on Friday and Sunday, with a longer ride on
Saturday.
So, make your plans, and send email to…

Annual Christmas Party
Hill Country Bicycle Touring Club
There will be food, music, gifts, games, and fun at the annual Christmas party. Be sure to attend with the whole family.
The annual Christmas party will be held on Friday, December 7th, 6:30 PM at the Roosevelt Park Clubhouse in San Antonio (same place as last year). This year we will try a “Potluck†meal with meat provided by the club and side dishes provided by the members. I have attached a food list, on which you can put your preference of a side dish or dessert to bring. When you have decided what to bring, please email Amanda at xxxxxxxxx, so she can track “who is bringing whatâ€. Also, please let her know if you plan to attend and not bringing a side dish. This year there will be no charge for the dinner, but we need to have a head count so folks will know what quantities of food to bring. …

Accumulations
by Steve AÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â DFW Point-to-Point
A week ago Friday marked my 400th consecutive commute since the last time I drove to work – February 9, 2011. Over that period of time, accumulations have built up.
Mileage Accumulations
The obvious accumulation is the mileage and how those are distributed. Namely, I tend to simply keep riding a bike to work every morning because it is set up. That mileage switches to a different bike when the first one becomes inconvenient due to maintenance or other needs. This year, I rode one bike the first couple of months, and another the rest of the year.
Wear Accumulations
Trunk Bag Earlier This Year
Wear is a commuter’s equivalent of rust – it never sleeps. For example, I noted early this year that my bike…

Thanksgiving at Lake Murray
Lone Star Cyclists
You are all invited to the second annual Lone Star Cyclist Thanksgiving at Lake Murray State Park and Resort.
This year Tim and Karl have planned some awesome routes that include a little visit to the Arbuckle Mountains. But hey, our booties will need a little break so Sandy has found other activities to enjoy. This is a perfect trip to bring non-cycling family.
…Thursday
8:00 Breakfast in the lodge restaurant.
9:00 Ride starts for the 24-mile ride around the lake(http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1878380 ) with 1554 feet of climbing and a max grade 5.3. This ride offers many low rollers. Sandy did not find this too challenging, but was a bit pooped by the end of the ride. We will take a left out of the Lake Murray Resort and then drop down into Buzzards Roost to pick up any riders who are camping and did not come up for breakfast. This pull out offers a great view of Tuckers Tower. For those needing a bit more challenge and riding fast, I suggest they take advantage of the many turnouts to various camping areas along the way. This will give you more challenging miles and keep you closer to slower riders. Bring…

Changing hearts on two wheels: Wounded warriors’ inspiring ride
by Jeff Anastasio / Kens5.com
Michael Lage probably shouldn’t be here.
“In 2007, my convoy was hit by an IED. My vehicle had five people in it,” Lage recalled.
“I was the only survivor.”
He lost his left hand and right thumb in the attack, and he suffered severe burns. For many people, such injuries would make a 500-mile bicycle ride across Texas impossible. …
