Program celebrates 16 years
The International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) is accepting applications for receiving a visit from the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew in 2013. The deadline for bike clubs, local trail groups and land management agencies to apply is Monday, November 5.
Active organizations are invited to apply for this opportunity to learn about sustainable trail building, club growth and community trails development.

Lone Star Scene: Austin filmmakers document Rwanda cycling triumph
By: Victor Diaz         austin.ynn.com
On a journey more than 8,000 miles away from Austin, filmmaker T.C. Johnstone
started the ride of a lifetime in the African Republic of Rwanda, far from the cutting edge of competitive cycling.
“We rode with these 10 cyclists who really had a passion for cycling and wanted to be professional cyclists. Unfortunately, they were all survivors of the genocide and they also were on 25-year-old bikes,” Johnstone said.
Johnstone and his Austin-based producers documented the determination of the first Rwandan National Cycling team in “Rising from Ashes.”
The team’s six-year journey to the Olympic Games came with with drama more…

Brooks man planning ‘Spokes & Jokes’ tour from Maine to Texas
By Tom Groening, BDN Staff         bangordailynews.com
BROOKS, Maine — Have you heard the one about the stand-up comic who bicycles to churches to tell jokes? There’s no punchline; it’s just what Chris Quimby is doing.
Quimby is preparing for his Spokes & Jokes Tour, in which he will bicycle more than 2,000 miles from his home in Brooks to a friend’s home in Texas, stopping at churches along the way to do his stand-up routine, song parodies and share what he hopes is inspiration about facing one’s fears and pursuing dreams.
Quimby is performing 7-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Fair Haven Camps in Brooks to raise funds for his trip. Admission is free, but he hopes people will…

Injured cyclist’s allies to drivers: Pay attention
By Melissa Fletcher Stoeltje      www.mysanantonio.com
As the dawn sky brightened, more than 400 bicyclists moved as one along a Loop 1604 North access road on Sunday in a show of support for one of their own recently injured when a motorist struck her from behind as she rode her bike.
Each rider wore a bright orange T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase “Can You See Me Now?†— a message to motorists imploring them to be mindful that cyclists legally share the road, in hopes that such accidents might be averted in the future.
Before the riders took off, Monica Caban — a 39-year-old triathlete and mother of two who suffered a serious spinal cord injury when an elderly woman…
