Women mtb clubs in austin?

Howdy,
My sister came home (Honduras) for her college summer break. I took her out on some light mtbing and she immediately got hooked. By the end of her break, she was handling some pretty tough climbs and even, to their amazement and embarrasment, beating some of my friends. Last week she went back to Austin to start her fall semester at UT. She wants to keep riding and wants to join a local group. Do any of you guys or gals know of a nice group of friendly texan woman (or coed) mtbers in Austin that are willing to welcome a…

What a workday at Lake Georgetown!
Austin Ridge Riders
by LeeC
Jeff’s friend Mike Hamilton brought his John Deere 512 tractor and shredder out. Paul and Roddy joined us from the Sun City Hiking Club.  We met at 9am and finally ate lunch about 2:30.  (we compensated Mike for the diesel and use of the tractor/mower)
Believe me, it took the power of the tractor to cut through the ragweed!  Over 7 feet tall with stalks 2″ at the base. I estimate over 4 miles were cut, and this opened up all the area on the west side of the lake adjacent to Tejas Park.  At least two passes…

We do 15-20 miles at the pace of the slowest rider; the purpose is to ride and chat. Meet at 6:00 pm on the southern bridge on Technology Loop in TAMUs Research Park. A clear headlight, red taillight and a helmet are required equipment for participation in this ride. However, no fancy bike needed. More info…

Bicycle Commuting This Week – When You’re Hot You’re Hot
by Christopher Curnutt         Biking in Dallas
That’s hot, but not THAT hot.
People North of the Mason Dixon line might not understand that temperatures in the low 90s is actually reasonable for summer bike commuting. I can do low 90s on my way home without complaining too much, then again I have a short commute. No doubt it’s more brutal on those who have a…

Each year for the last nine years, about 50 students from the University of Texas have pedaled bicycles nearly 4,700 miles from Austin to Anchorage, Alaska.
They split into two groups along the way, one chugging through the Rocky Mountains, the other heading up the Sierras. As they head north, they stop in towns to visit with cancer survivors, patients and family members to…
Cycling group to urge bike lanes on Bee Cave Parkway
By Marques G. Harper      www.statesman.com
Lakeway cyclist Tim Diven is all too familiar with the Dam Loop, a popular 40-plus-mile route for cyclists in western Travis County that runs along Capital of Texas Highway (Loop 360) and RM 620.
“The most dangerous portion of it is this little stretch behind the (Hill Country) Galleria,” said Diven, vice president of the Lake Travis Cycling Club. “Every Tuesday we do a bike ride that goes through Lakeway and Bee Cave. There’s no room for us to go. And the cars…
