Some New Streets – August 2nd Bicycle Ride
I wanted to ride a route different from what I rode so I looked at Google maps and found a few streets to the south that I have not biked before. The route I put together included some streets I normally ride with some I have not been on before on not in this particular combination. Since this was going to be new I wasn’t sure of the distance but thought I should get at least 24 or 25 miles. It ended up at 25.52 miles, not bad for a guess. I am not sure of the cause but my average speed was 14.6 mph, lower than my preferred 15+ mph. Max speed was 20.6 mph and average cadence was 74.8 RPM which reflects the low average speed. The wind was stronger than on recent rides at 12 mph from the SW. Mostly cloudy skies hid the sun at times and I enjoyed the cooler feeling when it did. The temperature ranged from 83 to 88 degrees and humidity started at 74% and decreased to 60% when I finished.
Most of the route was not on main streets so traffic was not very heavy. I will probably expand this route some by adding a south leg to Summerwood on W. Lake Houston Parkway. This will increase the distance 4 or 5 miles.
Starting time was 9:14 and I finished at 11:02. Total biking time was 1:45:05 plus 3:29 time stopped. Miles this week increased to 136.01, 56.66 miles so far in August and 3991.63 miles YTD. Almost to 4000 for the year. In the past this usually did not happen until September.
