Its Not Normal Around Here – July 10th Bike Ride
Back on the bike today after getting held down by sinusitis and rain. Usually this time of the year it is hot and dry but July is getting wet this year. One of the questions is when should I get back on the bike after being sick. I thought yesterday would have been that day but it rained in the afternoon and I had some work I needed to get done in the morning. There are still some sniffles and a cough but I think riding today was good.
The sky looked threatening with some dark gray clouds in the distance but when I checked the radar the rain was in the distance so off I went. The temperature felt like a fall day at 83 degrees but with all of the rain the humidity held at 72%. Sweat poured off of me whenever I stopped and even as I rode. The moisture wicking jersey had its job cutout today. An 8 mph south wind did little to get that moisture away. Around the 7 to 8 mile point I encountered some light mist but it did not last. Later starting around 16.5 miles I saw wet pavement but no rain fell while I rode there. The moisture required me to wash the bike when I got home which it needed anyway.
For a change all three of my data programs agreed on the 27.31 mile distance and 15.1 mph average speed. Max speed came in at 21.0 mph but with the damp pavement and coming off the sickness top speed was not my priority. July miles stand at 109.98 and YTD stands at 3423.39. Riding time today: 1:48:31, about 15 minutes shorter than usual because I shortened the ride to reduce the exposure to getting caught in rain.
