Down Memory Lane – June 2nd Bike Ride
Today I chose the northerly route with my new found exit from Kingwood. When I go this route I lose about 3 miles compared to the usual street combination out. So to make up for some of that I rode down the street we used to live on in New Caney. The changes in 22 years do not surprise me since we drive through maybe once every other year. When we lived there I could count the number of house on one hand with a finger not used. Now I need all of my digits. When I first start riding back in 1979 I used to circle our block several times to get 5 miles in. After a period of time I expanded out to other streets and then out to the roads. Back then shoulders were rare but traffic was too. Today the shoulders exist and the traffic increased significantly.
With this little addition the route ended up at 42.69 miles, just slightly shorter than using my normal Kingwood exit streets. One of the advantages of this particular direction allows me to avoid a number of stops which in turn pulls my average speed down. Today at the one hour mark I averaged about 16.6 mph with some help from the 12 mile SSE breeze. Once I turned west and then back south I still managed to keep my average speed at a good level. You can see my efforts in this table. Split speed is the average for that 5 mile section. I turned into the SSE wind around the 24.5 mile point.
The weather reverted to our norm from yesterday: temperature range during the ride 82 to 94, humidity 69% to 43% at the end, and scattered clouds.
The week’s mileage stands at 197.73, June now totals 74.09 and YTD is 2864.47.
