by Steve AÂ Â Â Â Â Â Dallas Point-to-Point
I’ve been very fortunate lately. I’ve gotten to help teach both a Cycling Savvy Course and a LAB TS101 Course. The CS course was in February and the TS course was last weekend. I expect to help teach another TS course this weekend, and will post about the GREAT DANGER facing cyclists today. But that is not what today’s post…

University Oaks – April 15, 2012 Race Report
by Jason Bentley, Winner of the P123 Race
@ATXCyclingTeam         AUSTIN CYCLING TEAM
The weather was cloudy with a cool breeze blowing through, and although it was dry, the potential for rain was ominous as the P123 race started. James Murff, CJ Hebert, and myself had a general plan of riding aggressively, but modulating our efforts depending on whether riders from teams with a large presence in the race were with us. CJ and myself took turns following the early attacks, but they were all reeled in fairly quickly. Then, about 20 minutes into the race, the rain started to fall. At first, it was light, but then the sky opened up, and the rain fell steadily for about 10 minutes. When the heavier rain started, I knew the corners would get slick, and for no other…

Vote for the Face of Biking In Dallas
by Christopher Curnutt         Biking in Dallas
Dallas Cycle Style has posted the photos taken for the 2012 Cyclist Census poll. You can see and vote here. I was flattered to see several of the photos I took made the cut. Susan Reeves (my amazing assistant, logistics captain and art director) and I shot around 35 people or so and everyone we met was very nice and fun to spend time with.  Later that day I shot a few others at the Deep…
OFFICIAL MEETING MAY 1st
by bmba         Borderland Mountain Bike Association
Over the past few years we’ve attempted to hold meetings at restaurants in order to fuel people and provide a socially inviting setting that interested folks may want to join. This model has not been as effective as we’d like it to be, so we’ve secured a board room to hold our official meetings.
This next meeting will be an official board meeting consisting of myself, Brent Sanders, DJ Singh, Rick Bonart, and Steve Ainsa. I would like to invite anyone else who may be interested in becoming more involved with the club, whether you’ve paid your membership dues or not. If you are interested in taking a more active role in the mountain bike community here in El Paso, I invite you to join us to help us revamp our membership…

Though we had a BLAST, we were also haunted by mechanical issues…
To begin, James pushed back our start time to change a flat. No problem, this is a common happening. Later on James’ bike was making some concerning noises which turned out to be his hub …ready to explode. He walked his bike back out…

By Pamela LeBlanc      Fit City
With three major fitness events lurking on this weekend’s horizon (not to mention that awesome Treeathlon at Barton Springs on Saturday, which I blogged about a few days ago), I thought I’d get a jump start.

Cyclists can choose from 13, 27, 53, 70 or 100 mile routes that start and end at Reunion Ranch in Georgetown on Saturday, April 28. Participants can start the trail run after they finish pedaling, or ditch the…

Bike Share Program Launching
by Houston Chronicle (blog) Chris Moran
(video at the link)
The idea is that a pedaler could take a bike from kiosk and ride to another part of town. Swipe in a credit card to pay your $5 (a lot more if you don’t return the bike, obviously) and you’re off. The plan is to expand the program to the Texas Medical …

Houston City Hall went from using no renewable energy to becoming a bigger buyer of green energy than any other city in the nation in three years.
The city’s downtown motor pool now has 25 Nissan Leafs and 15 hybrids. Next month, the city will start sprinkling bikes across downtown that pedalers can borrow for motorless jaunts. And this summer, wind turbines will be installed atop the city’s new permitting center. …
