Wow! Sun, dry and warm all at the same time – February 14th Bike Ride
Wow! Sun, dry and warm all at the same time. This hasn’t happened in at least 6 days when I last biked. Even then the weather was not that great. At my home weather station it showed 70 degrees at the start and moved down to 68 at the end. Another weather station in my area was warmer by 3 or 4 degrees. I got the road bike out and headed out at 2:35 with the intent of getting at least 28 miles on the Garmin Edge. I ended up at 29.88 miles. The first 5 miles was a rather slow 13.2 mph average speed. I was beginning to think the 6 day layoff sucked all of the strength out my legs. After that first 5 mile split though I managed to keep my average speed above 15.0 mph and ended up at 15.1 mph for the overall ride. Max speed topped out at 23.1 mph and the average cadence was 80.5 RPM.
With all of the rain over the last several weeks Lake Houston looks to be 100% full and the ground is saturated enough that water is running on to the road in many places. This means riding through the water and getting my clean bike dirty! In the summer I will probably be wishing for some rain though. There was one other biker out on my route. He was tucked into his aero bars and going the opposite direction.
February miles stand at 142.33 and YTD 409.58 miles. So far this year I biked 30 hours and 45 minutes. The weather looks iffy for tomorrow. Garmin Connect data link and RideWithgps.com data link.
