Mountain bike festival set for February

The Chihuahuan Desert Dirt Fest mountain biking festival will take place Feb. 16-18 in the Terlingua and Lajitas area.
The featured route will be the 54-mile “Epic Ride” in Big Bend Ranch State Park on Feb. 18. It can be done in one or two days, said ride organizers.
The three-day event will offer riding opportunities for all levels of mountain bikers, ranging from the mostly flat ranch roads to the Dome Trail and Rincon Loops, or the “Epic Ride,” which goes up Fresno Canyon to Sauceda. …

Winter Training Update

It only seems like yesterday, in some ways, since I got off the bike after an exciting sprint to end my 2011 season. It has been about 4 months since the Ft Hood State Championships. The last 3 months have been spent training for the upcoming road racing season. In October, I knew I would have to work hard to make the complete jump to the Big Leagues and be competitive in Texas’ top category: P/1/2.
Each year in my short 3 years of cycling, I have made huge improvements in the off season. This year I was fearing that my progress would plateau without fundamental changes in training efficiency, time management, and…
