Chris Tucker Rides His First Charity Ride
On November 12, 2011 I am cycling in Wounded Warrior Project’s (WWP) Soldier Ride San Antonio. It is my personal goal to raise funds to support our wounded servicemen and women of our nation’s armed forces, and you can help me reach this goal! You can sponsor me by clicking on the website listed below.
It will be my first charity ride. Should things go off well I plan on doing Tour de Cure in May, hopefully with the other cyclists from my hospital who have expressed an interest. Since diabetes was a primary cause of my brother’s death last year I figure I should do more to end this dreaded disease.

Six Key Bike Measurements: Park Tool Positioning Charts and Tutorials
by Eric Bowen         BikFit Blog
Every cyclist should have some of their key bike measurements recorded. Without this information it’s going to be difficult to get your position dialed in should any of the following apply:
You travel, pack your bike, and need to build it up again.
Something comes loose and slips, usually the seatpost or handlebars
You have work done at a shop, and they accidentally change something
You install a new stem, seatpost, saddle, and/or handlebars
You want to duplicate your position on another bike
You want to test ride a bike and get your position close to your current bike…

Houston Chronicle News
A 16-year-old bicyclist was killed after being hit by a truck in north Houston Wednesday morning. The collision occurred in the 1000 block of Greens near W. Hardy about 10 a.m., according the Houston Police Department. Police said the teen, whose name has not been released, was rushed to Memorial Hermann Northwest hospital. Two cars avoided hitting the girl, but the truck struck her. The bicyclist appears to be at fault, police said. …

Tour Das Hugel … A voyage of transformation, and pain (Part III)
by robdamico         Austin on Two Wheels
This is the third part of Rob D’Amico’s series looking at Tour Das Hugel and his attempt to do the 2011 ride. See here for Part I. He also is hosting a fundraiser that lets you donate a set amount for each mile he completes, with all proceeds going to local bike nonprofits.
About Me: Part II
I’ve managed to lose an entire pound more for a total of eight pounds shed. And with the ride day being Saturday and no big training days left, I’d say that I’m going to have to be happy with eight or nine pounds lost overall. Oh well, that’s all the less to haul all day. …
Welcome Bike Friendly Cedars
by dickdavid      Bike Friendly Richardson
There’s a new bike friendly group in Dallas called Bike Friendly Cedars. You can find them on Facebook for now.
Here’s their description:
“Bike Friendly Cedars is about cycling, but we’re more about community. We’re about putting together events to entice folks to spend more time in the Cedars, rather than just rushing through. Cruise around the neighborhood at 10 mph, and see what, and more importantly who you’ve been missing.†…
Ice Biking: A Dangerous Sport
By Jim Arnold, Yahoo! Contributor Network
I do not recall seeing snow before the age of 6. Since that age, I have become rather intimately familiar with the substance. However, in Austin, snow is infrequent to say the least. Therefore, on any occasion when it does happen to snow or ice over, the town goes absolutely crazy and shuts down. Schools cancel classes for any amount of fallen snow or ice on the road, simply because the locals do not know how to interact with this foreign substance.
Driving becomes rather dangerous for several reasons. First, people do not know how to use defrost in their car. Why would we? It’s Texas. Second, people do not alter their speed while in driving in their vehicles. It’s a good rule of thumb to slow down considerably when roads are iced over. But if there is a speed limit, many Texans…
Bike Nazis at the Texas Medical Center
By Steve Jansen    Houston Press
ARGH! DON’T YOU DARE PARK YOUR BIKE AT THE TEXAS MEDICAL CENTER OR ELSE!
?Before going to the office this morning, I cycled over to the Texas Medical Center to visit Chris Gray, the Press’s whiz-bang music editor who is recovering from an apparent heart attack. I greatly enjoyed sharing laughs with Chris during my visit, which lasted about 20 minutes. (He’s doing much better, by the way.)
When I returned to my bicycle, somebody had played a joke on me. Or so I thought. …
Former Batavia man bikes California to Florida at 62
Cyclist also raises $7,500 for cancer during cross-country trip
By Elena Ferrarin         www.dailyherald.com
Robert Marincic completed Monday a nearly 2,700-mile solo bicycle trip from California to Florida to raise funds for the American Cancer Society much faster than he anticipated.
It took the former Batavia resident just 41 days, including a two-day stop in Carrollton, Texas, where his wife met him for a visit halfway through the trip. He thought he’d be on the road for seven full weeks, he said. …
Life suck? Blame mountain biking
A friend of a friend has a blog. Here is his most resent post:
X axis = income, Y axis = you’re ****ed now
The late-2000’s recession, sometimes referred to as the Great Recession, Lesser Depression, Long Recession, or **** Honey We’re Broke Decade, is a severe ongoing global economic problem that began in March 2004 when President George W. Bush took up mountain biking. The economy took a particularly sharp nosedive in September 2008 as the cumulative effects of the president’s obsession with cycling caused him to completely ignore his obligations to the nation and, in effect, pedal the economy off a cliff.
The Great Recession has affected the entire world economy, with higher detriment in some countries than others. It is a major global recession characterized by the various systemic imbalances that are all too familiar to the spouses of avid cyclists, i.e., declining wages and increased…
1987 Schwinn High Sierra
by Justin      The Plano Cyclist
I said I would do it, and here it is; a post about my 1987 Schwinn High Sierra. This bike has gone through a couple of changes since the last full picture I put up, so I wanted give you a look at it in it’s completed form. The High Sierra frame is custom butted tri-caliber tubing, finished in a gorgeous (and rare) “black chrome” color. There aren’t many bikes this color out there, and this one is done very well. In fact, the process is actually illegal to do now…
