Retired BMX Rider Launches Fairdale
from Bicycle Retailer & Industry News
AUSTIN, TX (BRAIN)—It’s not unusual that retired BMX rider Taj Mihelich launched a new bicycle company. But what is of note is that Fairdale isn’t a BMX company, selling instead road/commuter bikes.
“I always wanted to do commuter bikes,†Mihelich said.
What forced Mihelich’s hand was a debilitating back injury that not only ended his BMX career a few years back, but also ended his BMX riding days in general. “It just made sense that I would sell bikes that I could ride,†he said. …

Dallas Bike to City Hall Day
by tracypop      Dallas Cycle Chic
We participated in Bike to City Hall day this morning. Individuals rode in from different parts of Dallas, and groups of people rode in with organzied (and safer) rides with Bike Friendly Oak Cliff and Bike Friendly Knox Henderson. Union Station was the meeting point.
Once we gathered at Union Station, we all went as a big group at 8:00 am to the front of City Hall for a press conference of sorts where Mayor Rawlings, Council members Delia Jasso and Scott Griggs, and Max the “Bike Czar†(great unofficial title!) discussed the continuing efforts to implement the recently approved Bike plan. All…

Put this one down in the annals of puppy-loving wackiness: An urban fund-raising bicycle ride that follows a route shaped roughly like a puppy’s head.
Yes, it’s true. Pedal for Puppies, a benefit for Austin Pets Alive!, will host the 25K ride starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, from Austin Subaru, 200 W. Huntland Drive. …

Livable Centers help create livable future
JEFF TAEBEL H-GAC Regional View
I’ve been thinking about Livable Centers a lot lately. The H-GAC Livable Centers Program helps communities create places where people can live, work and play without needing a car to get around.
I know some may be skeptical that walking or bicycling will ever be a significant part of how we get around in the Houston region. But think about places like Downtown Houston, the Texas Medical Center, or the campus of…
Coloradan cycles to Houston from Canada by way of Rapid City
Kevin Woster Journal staff      Rapid City Journal
An opponent of a Canadian oil pipeline proposal to cross South Dakota en route to refineries in Texas pedaled into Rapid City Tuesday with a gusty breeze and emotional message: stop Keystone XL.
Tom Weis, a green-energy activist from Boulder, Colo., began his journey on a tube-shaped, space-age-looking recumbent bicycle on the other side of the Canadian border two weeks ago.
He figures to be in the Houston area in about seven…

Ride Recap @ White Rock Lake 10/25/2011
by Shawn      Texas Mountain Bike Trails
I beat the sun tonight for a fast 14 miles at Dallas White Rock Lake located just east of downtown Dallas and only 1 mile from Amanda and I’s current apartment. It was perfect weather, I mean perfect. The gnats and bugs down by the lake weren’t much fun to ride through, and there is one section of the lake that stinks like hell because…
