Started Earlier with Lower Temperature and More Clouds – September 1st Bike Ride
There appears to be a change in the weather pattern today. The clouds are more numerous and the temperature is a little lower and is not supposed to exceed 100 degrees today. I wanted to leave earlier and I managed to start the ride at 9:00 AM. Even though the sun was out the 81 degrees did not seem so hot and the 10 mph east wind (20 mph gusts) helped to move the warm air around. This did not stop me from sweating buckets of water though. My biking gloves were soaked when I got back home and the temperature did make it to 91 degrees.
Since this is the first of September I wanted to start the month right so I had a goal of at least 29 miles and I did ride 29.56 miles but my average speed dipped below 15 mph to 14.8 mph. I think the east wind and the gusts going across Lake Houston on FM1960 was where I lost speed and pulled the average down. The max speed was 20.4 mph and average cadence was 78.5 RPM. almost 2 RPM lower than my last ride on Tuesday.
August was a good riding month with a total of 618.15 miles over 20 riding days. That averages 30.9 miles per ride. I rode 41 hours and 18 minutes for an average speed of 15.0 mph for the whole month. After today’s ride the year to date miles are up to 4086.36.
September will not approach this level since we will be on vacation most of the month and I decided to not take my bike. Last year I took my bike and did a few rides but having a bike on a rear rack and stopping at various places along the way posed some security issues. In addition every time we needed something in the back we had to work around the rack.
