Lather on the sun screen and venture forth – August 2nd Bike Ride
With my new leisure status I can now ride when I choose so I think but with the record temperatures each day my best option is to ride in the early morning. Even then the temperature is starting to move up the gauge. Today when I started it was 84 and at 11:15 when I finished it was 93. There was some relief when I rode in the shade but I am learning the morning shade is on a different side of the road than the evening shade. The partly cloudy sky was visually attractive but it also did not offer much shade either. So lather on the sun screen and venture forth brave biker. The wind helped to add some cooling but it was only 7 mph. Humidity was high at 53% when I finished which probably accounts for the perspiration rolling off about every part of my body. It was 72% when I started.
After yesterday’s 41 mile ride I figured today should be shorter to allow for some recovery. I thought my route would be around 30 miles and it turned out to be 30.11 miles. Average speed was 15.0 mph and max speed was 21.4 mph. Average cadence was 79.0 RPM. August miles are now at 71.62 and the year to date miles are 3510.27.
