Today’s ride is the first one in retirement – August 1st Bike Ride
Today’s ride is the first one in retirement. My wife gifted us a weekend in Galveston so I did not ride Saturday or Sunday. The plan as to leave around 9:00 AM this morning on a somewhat new route for a 40+ miles ride. Well I left at 9:08AM and the ride was 41.51.miles. Leaving early on a weekday was a rare event for me in the past since this would be either on a holiday or a vacation day. The temperature at the start 81 degrees and this felt comfortable with the light breeze that was around. By the end of the ride the temperature was 97 degrees at my home weather station. Riding in the shade made a big difference. Weekday traffic is different in the morning than in the evening when I normally ride. I think I prefer the morning variety with fewer people going my direction.
The new route portion was on a road I just discovered a couple of weeks ago called Tram Road which begins in Roman Forest and ends north of FM2090 east of Splendora. I believe this road was used by the tram’s from Houston to Cleveland back in the early 1900’s and was abandoned when the trams quit running. I had been on Tram from the FM2090 side but I did not know it went through to Roman Forest. The Kingwood Clippers use this route at times I am told.
Since this is the first day of August there is no month to date mileage to report but I am up to 3480.16 miles for the year. As I was riding I wondered if this could the first 200 mile week I have ever had. Time will tell.
