Road Kill Skunk – July 28th Bike Ride
This evening’s ride was a little cooler than yesterday’s ride. I am not sure what influenced the temperature but it flt cooler as I rolled out on the ride. Of course it did not take too long for the heat to return to to what seemed hot with the sweat pouring off of the jersey. As I ride along I dip my chin to the right and many drops of sweat roll off. It reminds me of breathing when I am swimming. The temperature was 91 degrees at the start (60% humidity) and 87 degrees (63% humidity) at the finish. The wind must have increased during the ride with a 13.8 southeast wind at the end. I thought the wind was going to slow my average speed down into the 14 mph range but I ended up at 15.1 mph with a max speed of 23.0 mph. Average cadence was 79.8 RPM. Partly cloudy skies were different from yesterday’s mostly cloudy condition. Today’s ride was a routine jaunt with no special events which is an okay thing. I did ride past a road kill skunk and even dead they can put out a strong smell.
Tomorrow is my last day at work and the beginning of my retirement. I am not sure how I will handle tomorrow since I like the people I work with and the company is a great place. I will miss them in one sense but I am ready to begin this new adventure.
No near collisions during this ride. I did see a couple of other bikers out. My distance was 28.60 miles. I stretched the route some trying to get to 600 miles for the month but I fell a little short at 599.56 but if you round it up I made it to 600. I will probably not be able to ride again until Monday so July is in the records now. This week’s miles are 81.54.
