Anticipating the end of the Tour de France – July 24th Bike Ride
The clouds were thicker when I began today’s ride so the temperature was only 87 degrees when I left home. The wind was not that brisk at 6.9 mph from the southwest. The humidity was 71% though so it was sticky and the air from riding did not really have much cooling effect. At the finish the temperature was 92 degrees and the humidity had dropped to 58%. I have ridden this route for a couple of weeks so I was back on the road to see if anything has changed. Actually I ride on portions of this route but just not this particular sequence or length. I was thinking I would get 25 miles but came in at 24.98 miles. My average speed was a somewhat slow 14.5 mph but I did manage a max speed of 21.6 mph. One nice thing about this route is the dogs are few and far between with one dog usually not outside at this time of day so no dog sprint today.
When I got home we watched the final stage of the TDF and now I am going into withdraw. No more nightly watching three to fours hours of the TDF in the small time block left after an evening ride and getting ready for the next day. Next year should be differ though since I will be retired from work and won’t have to wait until the evening to watch.
This week will be my last at my day job with my retirement on July 29th. I have waited for this event for over 40 years and this is a big move for both me and my wife. Now I will see how much of me she can stand. (Ha Ha)
