A Small Group Ride with 3 Bikers – July 9th Bike Ride
Today’s ride was unusual for two reasons: I rode with three other bikers, and we went on a route that had some roads I had not done before. We got lost once but it was only for a mile or so. I rode with Richard, Tom and Bill. We met at the Kroger store early (6:15AM) and got on the road for a new adventure. It was great riding with other bikers to chat about bike stuff and to set a good pace when I could have slowed down. The weather was warm for 6:15AM at 80 degrees when we started so I thought it would really hot by the time we finished but some dark clouds rolled in and the temperature stayed in the low 80’s mostly. We rode in some rain for about 2 miles near the end of the ride which was not all that uncomfortable but it was wet. The wind was a gentle 4 mph from the south. I look forward to riding with these bikers again soon.
Richard and Bill are planning on riding the Hotter’n Hell 100 and the Katy Flatland next weekend. Hopefully this was a good training ride. We ended up riding 51.35 miles and my average speed was 16.1 mph with a max speed of 23.5 mph. Average cadence was 83.0 RPM. The average speed and cadence were higher than my usual numbers so I was pleased with that. This brings my July mileage up to 182.23 and the year to date miles to 3021.32. This week’s miles are 105.03. Missing Wednesday will be a hit on my 150 to 160 mile weekly total. So far I have rode 5 days in July.
